Five Resources For California Employers
There's no question about it - times are tough.
If you're a California employer and are thinking about laying off workers, there are resources out there to help you and help your employees.
1) Alternatives to layoffs
If you are about to layoff two or more employees, you may be eligible for Work Sharing Unemployment benefits. Under California's Work Sharing program, you can keep your employees but reduce their hours. They receive benefits for the hours they do not work.
2) Help your employees find their next job
3) Notification of layoffs
If you have 75 employees or more, you are required by federal and state law to give at least 60 days notice before a plant closing or mass layoff. This will help your employees and their families plan for the transition.
4) Post job openings
When the economy turns around, post your job openings at CalJOBS.
5) Other services are available
Your local Workforce Investment Board is here to serve both employers and employees. They have staff and services available to help you
- Retain your current workforce
- Help your laid-off employees get their next job
- Get back to hiring when the economy improves
